Spring Maintenance Tips

We understandably neglect the exterior of our homes in the winter and sometimes, it can take a little TLC to get things back on track. Here are a few key things to remember when you’re prepping for the change in season.

    • Check your HVAC systems, as you may need to replace your air filters. While you’re at it, you may want to test the system once weather warms up a bit.  If it needs servicing, you can bet it will be easier and cheaper to get a technician on site than waiting until the hottest day of summer when it stops working.  Inspect the condenser for debris and have it cleaned out if necessary.

    • Inspect the roof and sides of your home. Caulking should be intact throughout and the shingles secure so everything stays outside during the inevitable storm season. Gutters should also be cleaned and cleared of winter debris.

    • To get a head start on any landscaping or gardening, it’s wise to replace any broken tools or cracked hoses. It’s a good idea to power wash decks and pathways, and clean up any fallen branches too.

    • Call a chimney sweep to confirm that the chimney caps are in place. Be sure to ask him about installing a draft stopper in the flue to save you money on energy bills.

    • Don’t forget about the interior. Wipe those windows and dust, dust, dust! When you go to turn on the fan in a few weeks, you’ll be glad you did.
